Research Interest
Population genetics, Genome evolution, Conservational Biology.
To protect biodiversity, and to make effective conservation strategies, it is crucial to study the population genomics of fish species. My research focuses on the population structure and genetic diversity of Glyptothorax species, a fascinating group of catfish in the Asian freshwater ecosystem. It is the most species-rich and widely distributed genus in the family with new species being discovered regularly. Being the most diverse group, it possesses challenges in its identification. By implying molecular tools these cryptic species can be differentiated. Moreover, many species within this genus are threatened and it is paramount to conserve their genetic material. So, I aim to resolve the taxonomic ambiguities on a molecular basis and to contribute to the field of genome and population genetics by exploring the biology, biogeographic affinities, and conservation of these species.
